Frequently Asked Questions
How does this tank's construction compare to the original?
It's manufactured to original specifications using pressed mild steel, featuring the same swirl pot design and mounting points as factory-fitted tanks. We've maintained period-correct construction while incorporating modern manufacturing standards for improved durability.
Why are the mounting holes undrilled?
This is actually intentional! TR models often developed slight variations in chassis alignment over the years. Undrilled mounting points allow you to custom-fit the tank to your specific vehicle, ensuring perfect alignment without compromise.
Will this tank work with my original fuel system setup?
Absolutely. We've designed this tank to be completely compatible with all original fuel system configurations, whether you're running carburettors or fuel injection. The take-offs are positioned precisely as per the original specifications.
I'm concerned about authenticity for concours events. Is this tank suitable?
You're in safe hands. As a part under the Stanpart brand, this tank meets all authenticity requirements. It's manufactured exclusively by Rimmer Bros to original specifications, making it ideal for concours-level restorations.
How long can I expect this tank to last?
While longevity depends on usage and storage conditions, the pressed mild steel construction, combined with modern manufacturing techniques, provides excellent durability. Regular maintenance and keeping fuel levels above 1/4 tank will help maximise lifespan.
Any special installation tips?
Check your existing mounting points carefully before drilling. We recommend test-fitting the tank first and marking hole positions while the tank is supported in place. Don't forget to apply a suitable fuel-resistant sealer around any fittings.
What about the swirl pot design - does it really make a difference?
Yes, significantly. The original-style swirl pot helps prevent fuel starvation during cornering or when fuel levels are low - a common issue with TR models. This design feature helps maintain consistent fuel delivery to your engine.
Is there anything I should know about fuel compatibility?
While the tank is compatible with modern fuels, we recommend using a fuel stabiliser if the car isn't used regularly. This helps prevent internal corrosion from ethanol-blended fuels sitting for extended periods.
