MGF & MG TF
We supply both genuine (OE) and where available, Aftermarket parts. An Aftermarket part will have a P (pattern) suffix at the end of the MG Rover part no. Other suffixes such as UR (uprated) and SS (stainless steel) are also used to denote other variations of the same part. These are shown as options below the originating part no. See MG Rover MGF & MG TF Vehicle Information for detailed information. See alsoParts Information for further details.

MGF Parts

Few cars rewarded their owners with handling like the original MGF, and few present the same range of ownership questions twenty-plus years on. The Hydragas suspension that gave the car its characteristic ride is now a known service item; the K-Series engine demands the right cooling system conditions to stay alive; and the Mk1 to Mk2 transition in 1999 brought enough running changes that ordering MGF parts without knowing your build date and variant is rarely a good idea. Getting the right specification first time is what saves a weekend and a second order.

The MGF arrived in 1995 as the first new MG sports car designed since the MGB ceased production in 1980, manufactured under BMW ownership through the Rover Group. The original 1.8i and 1.8i VVC variants launched the car, with the Trophy 160 joining the range in 2001 as the highest-output road version. MG Rover took over production in 2000 and significantly revised the car as the MG TF in 2002, replacing the Hydragas suspension with coil springs. Both the MGF and MG TF share substantial components across the chassis, body and electrical systems, which is why our MGF and MG TF section covers both cars in full.

Mid-engined geometry means MGF suspension carries more rear-axle load than a conventional sports car, and the Hydragas system that supports it is a closed hydraulic circuit that requires periodic re-pressurisation as the units settle. Worn lower arm bushes, perished anti-roll bar bushes and tired Hydragas displacers all change the way the car sits on its tyres, producing accelerated edge wear that no amount of new rubber will solve until the underlying components are addressed. Our MGF and MG TF front suspension range covers bush kits, ball joints, anti-roll bar components and dampers, with our MGF and MG TF rear suspension listings covering the corresponding rear components and the Hydragas displacer units themselves. For owners moving away from Hydragas, we stock coil spring conversion kits as part of our MGF performance parts range, alongside polyurethane bush kits, adjustable dampers from GAZ, Spax and Bilstein, big brake conversions and stainless steel sports exhausts.

The K-Series engine in the MGF is a strong, willing unit when properly maintained, but it has a reputation for head gasket failure that traces back to a combination of cooling system design and the way the engine deals with localised hot spots. Coolant condition, header tank integrity, radiator condition and thermostat function all matter on these cars, and owners who run consistently to the correct pressure and temperature usually find the engine lasts as long as anything else of its era. MG Rover later introduced the N-Series revisions with improved head gaskets, fitted to the post-2002 MG TF, but the original MGF responds well to early intervention on the cooling side. Our MGF and MG TF brake range covers standard pad and disc replacement through to Trophy-specification 304mm AP Racing big brake conversion kits, and brake condition is worth inspecting at the same time as any cooling work because rear calliper handbrake mechanism seizure is a known MGF issue.

Body and trim demand the same attention as the mechanicals. MGF body parts, including sill sections, wing repair panels and front bumper assemblies, are still available, and the hood frame and cover specification differ between Mk1 and Mk2 cars. Wheels are an area where many MGF cars have wandered from original specification over the years. Our MGF and MG TF wheels section carries genuine MG Rover 15-inch and 16-inch alloys alongside Trophy 16-inch fitments and aftermarket replacement options. For owners refreshing or personalising the cabin and exterior, our MGF and MG TF accessories section covers car care products, exterior enhancements and interior accessories developed specifically for these cars.

Founded in Lincoln in 1982, we have been supplying MGF spares to owners and restorers in the UK and 195 countries worldwide since the car was launched. We established our MG Rover parts operation in 2005 when the parent company went into administration, securing the supply chain for owners who would otherwise have been left without specialist support.
