Product Description
Outer Axle Shaft and Hub Assembly - RKC454CV - CV Joint type - New - Uprated
Outright sale.
CV joint type with ball bearing sliding shaft and improved stub axle design.
Although originally developed by GKN for first Mini in 1959, the Constant Velocity / Homokinetic - or CV joint is now the favoured technology for both front and rear-wheel drive applications.
As its name implies the driveshaft runs at a constant rotational speed irrespective of its operating angle, whereas the simpler Hook joints’ rotational speed varies according to the angle it runs at.
CV joints are more efficient and reduce power losses through the drive system whilst delivering smoother driveline operation and because the system runs ‘greasy ball bearings’ it eliminates the clunk and spline lock associated with sliding spline alternatives.
Whilst improved ease of suspension movement enhances the ride and handling.
Technical details:
Uprated hub with larger bearings and stronger flange.
Flange manufactured from EN16T steel and splined for strength and easy disassembly.
Hub machined from Billet 6082 spec alloy.
Genuine Timken / SKF taper roller bearings widely spaced, larger than standard and solidly shimmed.
Bearing design and layout developed in conjunction with Timken UK.
Improved durability and load capacity over double row ball bearings.
CV joints produced by original equipment suppliers to Kia, Hyundai and Nissan.
CV joints used are from mass production cars of greater kerb and train weight.
In its’ original fitment the outer joint is used in front-wheel drive applications, so subject to more angulation changes than in these shafts.
Driveshaft manufactured from EN24T steel.
All joints are filled with top quality Molybdenum Disulphide grease.
Inner studs engage the differential flange with the shank not the threaded portion.
Fits all cars without modifying the trailing arm.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell if I need to upgrade my CV joints and hub assembly?
Common signs include clicking or vibrating when turning and visible grease leakage. However, many classic car enthusiasts choose to upgrade proactively as a serious safety measure, particularly when combined with uprated hubs.
What makes this assembly superior to standard CV joints?
The RKC454CV uses advanced constant velocity joint technology with greased ball bearings that eliminate traditional CV joint issues. Our uprated design featuring EN16T steel flange and Billet 6082 spec alloy hub provides significantly improved durability over standard assemblies.
Do I need to modify my trailing arms to fit this assembly?
No - we've engineered this as a direct-fit solution requiring no modifications to your trailing arms. The assembly maintains OEM fitment while delivering enhanced performance through its heavy-duty design.
What about maintenance and serviceability?
Our splined design facilitates straightforward disassembly when needed. We use genuine Timken/SKF taper roller bearings, which are widely available. The CV joints contain a specific amount of high-grade Molybdenum Disulphide grease in sealed units for optimal performance and longevity.
How does this assembly improve vehicle handling?
The sliding centre shaft design allows for enhanced suspension travel while maintaining consistent rotational speed at any operating angle. This creates smoother driveline operation and improved power transfer to the wheels.
Will this assembly affect my wheel bearings?
The RKC454CV is designed to work in harmony with your wheel hub assembly. The CV axle's primary function is to turn the hub, and our uprated version does this more efficiently while providing additional stability through larger bearings and a stronger flange.
What are the key benefits over standard double row bearings?
Our assembly features premium Timken/SKF taper roller bearings that offer improved durability and load capacity compared to standard double row ball bearings. This translates to better handling characteristics and longer service life.
