CV joint type with ball bearing sliding shaft and improved stub axle design.

Although originally developed by GKN for first Mini in 1959, the Constant Velocity / Homokinetic - or CV joint is now the favoured technology for both front and rear-wheel drive applications.
As its name implies the driveshaft runs at a constant rotational speed irrespective of its operating angle, whereas the simpler Hook joints’ rotational speed varies according to the angle it runs at.
CV joints are more efficient and reduce power losses through the drive system whilst delivering smoother driveline operation and because the system runs ‘greasy ball bearings’ it eliminates the clunk and spline lock associated with sliding spline alternatives.

Whilst improved ease of suspension movement enhances the ride and handling.

Technical details:
Uprated hub with larger bearings and stronger flange.
Flange manufactured from EN16T steel and splined for strength and easy disassembly.
Hub machined from Billet 6082 spec alloy.
Genuine Timken / SKF taper roller bearings widely spaced, larger than standard and solidly shimmed.
Bearing design and layout developed in conjunction with Timken UK.
Improved durability and load capacity over double row ball bearings.
CV joints produced by original equipment suppliers to Kia, Hyundai and Nissan.
CV joints used are from mass production cars of greater kerb and train weight.
In its’ original fitment the outer joint is used in front-wheel drive applications, so subject to more angulation changes than in these shafts.
    Driveshaft manufactured from EN24T steel.
All joints are filled with top quality Molybdenum Disulphide grease.
Inner studs engage the differential flange with the shank not the threaded portion.
Fits all cars without modifying the trailing arm.

1 Halfshaft Assembly (Less Wheel Studs) - Part No. 311914R
Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly comes in this reconditioned assembly?

The assembly comes complete with the hub, requiring only wheel studs for full installation. It’s a comprehensive unit that saves you the headache of sourcing individual components.

Why choose a reconditioned assembly over new parts?

A new drive shaft can cost between £200-£1000. Our reconditioned unit offers significant cost savings while maintaining quality. Plus, our exchange programme allows you to recoup some costs when returning your old unit.

What type of Universal Joints are supplied?

We understand different vehicles have different requirements, so we provide flexibility in UJ specifications. You'll receive either circlip type or staked type Universal Joints, depending on availability and what's most appropriate for your application.

How do I know if I need a replacement half shaft assembly?

Issues with your drive shaft or half axle can directly impact your hub assembly. Common symptoms include:

  • Vibration during acceleration
  • Clunking noises during gear changes
  • Difficulty transferring power to the wheels
  • Unusual movement in the drivetrain

What's the installation process like?

The assembly is designed for straightforward fitment. Many reconditioned units install similarly to OEM parts, and our ready-to-fit design eliminates the need for complex assembly work.

How does the exchange surcharge work?

Upon purchase, a surcharge is applied, which is fully refundable upon return of your old unit. This helps maintain a sustainable reconditioning programme while keeping costs down for everyone.

Can I match this with my existing components?

This reconditioned assembly is designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing vehicle components. However, for optimal performance and safety, we recommend checking compatibility and considering replacing related wear items at the same time.

A quality item, better than the original and a value add.

Did this item work well with your project? What vehicle type are you using this for?

Looking to improve the rear end performance over the standard Stag as part of a comprehensive rebuild. Not light at 12kg but necessary, short of using expensive alloys.
