To help you overcome the problems of A series early scroll type oil seals (difficult to fit and unreliable), we offer modern lip (fit and forget) oil seal conversions for the A series engine. Kit includes full instructions.

This kit removes the existing scroll type oil seal and replaces it with a conventional runner oil seal. This conversion is designed to eliminate the inevitable oil seepage that comes from the scroll type arrangement. It is not designed to stem large oil leaks that are the result of further engine problems.

Engines can leak heavily due to worn main bearings allowing movement in the crankshaft (this often damages the original scroll arrangement) or as the result of excessive crankcase pressure from combustion gases bypassing the piston rings and/or inadequate engine crankcase breathing.

For the oil seal to work effectively and last for a long time it is important that the surface it seals against on the crankshaft is sufficiently smooth. Many crankshafts have a course surface that will require polishing (machining in extreme cases) before the kit is fitted. The kit must be fitted so that the crankshaft is concentric to the seal; care and precision are essential to allowing this kit to work correctly.
