Product Description
MGF and MG TF Hardtop Components
When fitting a hardtop manufactured prior to 1998 (to VIN WD027768), please be aware that a slight, one-time alteration to the door glass stop settings will probably be required to ensure full and correct sealing between the door glasses and the hardtop. This does not affect sealing between the door glasses and hood, so the settings will not have to be adjusted again if or when the hard top is removed.
Note that MGFs built prior to VIN WD037078 (again, 1998) originally had different door glass stops to the fully adjustable items found on later cars. Adjusting the door glasses is much easier if the later stops are fitted (available as an uprated kit, RP1496, 2 required per car - see ‘Body Fittings - Doors).
Hardtops manufactured after 1998 feature improved seals, extra seal spacers and adjustable hood well catches. Requirement to adjust the door windows to match these later hardtops is not so common.
An early hardtop, immediately identifiable by its non-adjustable hood well catches, may be rebuilt to the later specification by fitting the later components listed here. While it will definitely benefit from improved all-round sealing, it must be stressed that this doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of door window adjustment to obtain a perfect fit.
All of the above comments are relevant to both the MG Rover and Heritage hardtops.
