This is a UK and Late USA spec. Spitfire 1500 crankshaft
Early USA spec.(& possibly a handful of early UK spec.) 1500's were fitted with a 3/8" bolt crank to flywheel fixing.
The original part no. is 311553 and is no longer available (NLA).
RKC918 can be used but the mounting holes in the flywheel will require careful drilling to accept the 7/16" Bolts.

Triumph Spitfire Crankshaft and Pulley
1500 Crankshaft & Flywheel
Some early Spitfire 1500’s (Definitely USA models, possibly some UK) were originally fitted - at the factory, with crankshafts & flywheels that used 3/8” fixing bolts. (3/8” bolt part number 138526). All later models had larger holes & drillings (flywheels & crankshafts) to accept 7/16” bolts. (7/16” bolt part number UKC4254).

What crankshaft fits with what flywheel ?
Early type flywheels (TKC1186) with 3/8” diameter bolt holes CAN be fitted to crankshafts that have 7/16” drillings by carefully ‘centre drilling out’ the 4 holes to 7/16” and using 4 later type bolts UKC4254. Later type flywheels (TKC1840) with 7/16” diameter bolt holes CAN be fitted to crankshafts that have 3/8” drillings by using one of our Bolt/Bush adaptor kits (RL1512), which include 4 (3/8”) fixing bolts, and 4 machined bushes (60070). Both early & late flywheels use the same locating dowels.

In my fleet of needy cars, there’s Jessica. My Carmine red 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500. Everything is nearly perfect except the engine, which is how I found her, with two bad engines. Since the original 1500 and a replacement 1500 came with the car, I decided to rebuild the original engine. The crankshaft needed minor polishing, but the crankshaft pulley and nut were seized and had to be cut off. Fortunately Rimmer Brothers has a replacement for a very reasonable price. I could have used the nut and pulley from the other bad engine, but new is better, and I may rebuild both engines eventually. I also bought a used pulley from Rimmer Brothers (in a separate order). It is the U.K. version, as expected, without the U.S. v-belt groove for an air pump. This doesn’t matter to me since neither engine came with the air pump and nobody makes new ones. Besides, the car has better emissions than my riding lawn mower and gets far less use!

Critical for that high performance 1300cc narrow bearing engine build

If you want to fit a duplex timing chain (and maybe even vernier timing gear) to your Herald 13/60 or Spitfire Mk3 engine, then this gear wheel is a must. The alternative in the past was a 2500 gearwheel with an adapter bush pressed into the centre, but these always turn blue with use int he engine and can break down, resulting in damage to the inside of your engine. This gear wheel is custom build from scratch so that problem won't arise.
