The spacer ring is machined and anodized aluminium and the rigid arm is powder coated steel. The same ball joint is used. If your phone is QI equipped it will stick to the magnet base straight away. If not, you can either attach an included adhesive backed metal plate to your phone, or simply slide one into your case.
