Model Range Overview
Vehicle Identification Plate
The Vehicle Identification (VIN) Plate is located at the foot of the left hand door pillar and contains a series of number and codes that define each individual vehicle. The content is illustrated below.
Vehicle Identification Numbering System
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) comprises a series of letters and numbers representing, in code, the World Make Idnetifier, Marque, Model, Class, Body, Engine, Transmission, Steering, Model Change, Assembly Plant and Serial Number application to each individual vehicle (effective from November 1998). This number should be quoted in full when communicating with your dealer. THe VIN number can be found on the VIN plate, stamped into the top of right hand front suspension mounting (inside the engine compartment) and on a plate visible through the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen.

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd letters represent the World Make Identifier.

The 4th and 5th letters represent the Marque and Model, in this case RJ=Rover 75.

Engine Identification Number Location
Engine Identification Number Codes
The engine number comprises a series of letters and numbers presenting in code the cubic capacity, the ancillaries fitten and the type of compression. The engine serial number is a unique number. Always quote the prefixes with the engine serial number.

Body Identification Number
The Body Identification Number is stamped on a metal plate located in the boot (saloon) or rear load space (estate), to the left of the spare wheel housing and beneath the floor trim panel.
Body Colour Identification Codes
The (VIN Plate (see Vechile Identificatione Plate) includes codes to accurately identify body paint colours. These codes and colour names should always be used when ordering replacement parts. The codes and colour names shown are related to those in the vehicle colour charts and the Rover Paint Refinishing Manual.
Rover 75 Main Trim Colour Combinations
The VIN Plate (see Vehicle Identification Plate) includes the Interior Trim Feature Code to accurately identify colour ways used for the vehicle trim. The Part Suffix Code is appended to the specific seat part number to define the seat type and colour. When ordering replacement parts the interior trim colours should be specified using the codes and colour names given below. These are the recommended colour combinations.

MGZT and ZT-T Main Trim Colour Combinations
The VIN Plate (see Vehicle Identification Plate) includes the Interior Trim Feature Code to accurately identify colour ways used for the vehicle trim. The Part Suffix Code is appended to the specific seat part number to define the seat type and colour. When ordering replacement parts the interior trim colours should be specified using the codes and colour names given below. These are the recommended colour combinations.
Note: THe MG model range has the option of coloured finishers - Red, Green/Yellow and Burr Walnut.
Airbag Deployment - Parts Replacement Policy
Front Airbags - Driver and Passenger
Note that there was not a front seat passenger occupancy detection system fitted to the Rover 75/MG ZT at the outset of production.
When the system deploys the following parts must be replaced:
Driver and Passenger Airbags
Flyleads connecting the Airbags described above to the Integrated Harness
All Front and Rear Seatbelts, including the Seat Belt Buckles fitted to the Front Seat frame
All Pyrotechnic Pretensioners
Steering Wheel Rotary Coupling
SRS DCU
Note: that there is no requirement to replace the SRS Harness which is integrated into the Main Vehicle Harness
In addition the following parts should be inspected for damage and replaces as necessary:
Facia Moulding (high probability of damage)
Facia Wood
Steering Wheel (only if discernible damage is evident)
Front Seat Frame and Head Restrainst (if evidence of damage to the Seat Frame or Cushion Pan)
Side (Thorax) Airbags
When the sustem deploys, the following parts fitted to the deployed side of the vehicle must be replaced:
Seat Airbag Module
Seat Squab Foam
Seat Squab Cover
SRS DCU and both Side Impact Sensors
Seat Belt Assembly on impacted side only
In addition the following parts should be inspected for damage and replaced as necessary:
Front Seat Frame (if there is evidence of External or Seat Airbag deployment damage to the Seat Frame)
B Post Internal Finishers
Door Casing
Side ITS (Head Side Impact Protection) Airbags
Renew those parts listed for Thorax Airbag deployment plus:
ITS Airbag plus retaining clips on impact side
A Post Moulding
In addition, the following parts should be inspected for damage and replaced as necessary:
Headlining
B Post Upper Finisher
Alarm Sensor
ITS Deployment Ramp Device
Rear Impacts
Rear impacts may cause the Seat Belt Pretensioners to deply. If this happens, all Front and Rear Seatbelts and Pyrotechnic Pretensioners, including the Seat Belt Buckles must be replaced.
In addition the following parts should be inspected for damage and replaced as necessary:
Front and Rear Seat Frames
Seatbelt Auto Height Adjuster on the B Post
Seat Airbags
The Seat Cover is constructed specifically for use on a seat with a Side Airbag fitted and can be identified by the AIRBAG label sewn into the Outer Frame (Illustration 1).
Spring and Damper Identification Label
The Spring and Damper Identification Label is located under the rear seat squab and contains identification codes (CI codes) for the springs and dampers fitted to that specific vehicle, when manufactured.

All lock and Key parts referenced in this publication must be ordered for the specific vehicle that they are intended to fit. When ordering these parts you must quote the VIN number of the vehicle, quoting the 4th, 5th and 10th characters and the unique vehicle serial number, as shown below:
