These brand new starters are high torque, meaning their armatures will not suffer the same fate as the originals, especially on high compression engines. More reliable by design, they are half the weight of the original TR6 starter. Bringing TRs (literally) into the millennium. Other parts may be required, possibly part number 102014 spacer and a relay, depending on original wiring, see fitting instructions for details. These uprated starters are sold on an outright basis.

The starter mounting shim, generally gets lost or forgotten when the starter is replaced is used to adjust the position of the starter pinion relative to the ring gear. With early starters, adding a shim moves the pinion away from the ring gear, decreasing the mesh. With late starters, adding a shim brings the pinion closer to the ring gear, increasing the mesh. It seems that most cars were originally fitted with one shim. These are 1.9mm in thickness.

Good replacement for original

Did this item work well with your project? What vehicle type are you using this for?

69 TR6 Easier to install than to remove the original, which seemed to require the removal of the steering column to get it out. Original could be removed from below if the exhaust was off. Vastly superior cranking speed. Much better than all the time I have had the vehicle where cranking always sounded somewhat laboured. No specific TR6 installation instructions. This unit can be oriented in two ways. Had to phone up to enquire which one was correct. The permanently installed bolt has a long unthreaded section and required an additional bush to enable the retaining nut to be tightened. This was not supplied, although they offered to send me one.
