Triumph 2000, 2500 & 2.5Pi Exhaust
The Triumph 2000 series exhaust system runs from cast iron manifolds through twin downpipes to a single centre silencer and rear box, terminating beneath the rear bumper. Original mild steel systems corrode rapidly in British weather, whilst modern stainless steel alternatives offer lifetime durability. Exhaust leaks affect engine performance and allow dangerous fumes to enter the cabin through poor door seals.
Exhaust System Configuration
The straight-six engine uses a dual downpipe system that merges before the centre silencer. Exhaust hangers attach to the bodyshell and must remain flexible; deteriorated rubber mounts allow excessive movement that cracks pipes at welded joints. Worn engine mountings exacerbate this problem by permitting greater drivetrain movement. The 2.5Pi fuel injection demands precise exhaust backpressure maintained by correctly specified silencer volumes.
Performance and Replacement Options
Standard bore systems suit original specifications, whilst performance upgrades offer improved gas flow for modified engines. Stainless systems provide superior corrosion resistance compared to mild steel alternatives. Correct exhaust tuning complements fuel system modifications.
