Triumph GT6 Clutch

The Triumph GT6 clutch sits between the 2.0-litre straight-six engine and the gearbox, and it works hard. Mk2 and Mk3 cars produced from 1968 onwards used a hydraulically operated single-plate diaphragm clutch, and that's the configuration you'll find most parts listed for here. Is the GT6 Mk1 clutch the same as the Mk2 and Mk3?

It is not. The Mk1 GT6 used a cable-operated clutch mechanism, while Mk2 and Mk3 cars produced from 1968 onwards used a hydraulic system with a master and slave cylinder. These are different setups requiring different parts, so identifying your mark and chassis number before ordering is essential.

Are uprated GT6 clutch covers available?

Yes, uprated clutch covers are available for the GT6. Road-uprated covers use a stronger diaphragm spring for improved control and reliability under harder use. Yes, GT6 clutch hydraulics require periodic attention. Brake and clutch fluid should be changed every two years to prevent internal corrosion of the master and slave cylinders.
