Triumph 2000, 2500 & 2.5Pi Rear Axle & Differential
The Triumph 2000 series rear axle features a live axle design with semi-trailing arms, locating the differential unit containing crown wheel and pinion gears. Power flows from the gearbox through the propshaft into the differential, distributing torque to both rear wheels via halfshafts. The differential internals include a planetary gear, allowing differential wheel speeds during cornering, essential for smooth handling and tyre preservation.
Halfshafts and Hub Assemblies
The outer halfshafts and hubs transfer power to the wheels, with splined connections at the differential end and wheel bearings supporting the hub assemblies. Oil seals prevent differential oil leaking onto brake components, with failure causing contaminated rear brake shoes and reduced stopping effectiveness. Regular inspection prevents expensive brake system damage.
Suspension Integration
The rear axle mounts to the chassis through suspension components including trailing arms, coil springs and shock absorbers, with the entire assembly moving as one unit. Worn trailing arm bushes allow excessive axle movement, affecting wheel alignment and tyre wear. Browse our complete Triumph 2000 series range for axle components.
