Product Description
Triumph TR3A-4 Girling Type B Split Calipers - Second Type
TR3A from TS56377 (wire wheels) & TS56384 (steel wheels), TR3B, All TSF series, TR4 to CT4689 (wire wheels) & CT4387 (steel wheels)
We advise very strongly against splitting calipers for any reason by anyone other than a brake specialist with the correct reassembly specifications to hand.
New Type B split calipers are available, alongside reconditioned items. It is important to note that the new calipers are replacement items and while they appear on the surface to be faithful reproductions of the originals, they are in fact designed to accept and are built with later TR6 16PB/M16P caliper type pistons and seals. When the time eventually comes to repair or rebuild them, they will not accept original Type B split caliper pistons and seals and must once again be fitted with later TR6 items.
To identify what's on your car, withdraw the brake pads and look at the dust covers around the pistons - large bellows type dust covers indicate original Type B calipers, whereas more compact dust covers retained by steel clips indicate the replacement calipers.
