MG Motor TF Bumper Conversion
Probably the nicest feature of the MG Motor MG TF built by Nanjing/SAIC from 2009 onwards is the front bumper and radiator grille styling - the smoother, more rounded lines lend a quite different appearance compared to the earlier MG Rover TF.
The parts involved are sufficiently similar to make attachment of the new front end to an MG Rover TF a reasonably straightforward conversion. The differences that do exist are overcome by using the following parts.
The bumper mounting armature looks the same but is subtly different in one respect. The weld nuts taking the two large bumper mounting screws are fitted to the holes below those used on the MG Rover TF. These holes need opening out and two new M10 nuts welded behind them. All other bumper to body fixings are the same and can be reused, including the large bumper to armature screws.
The upper grilles are obviously new, since the MG Rover TF doesn’t have upper grilles. While the MG Rover lower grille can be adapted to fit the new bumper, the easy solution is to purchase new grilles and fixings.
If your MG Rover TF has fog lamps, no problem - they fit the new bumper assembly. If not, you may need to purchase a pair and wire them in (see Electrical) since all MG Motor TFs have fog lamps and consequently blanking panels for the lamp holes on this bumper do not exist.
Non-air conditioned MG Rover TFs feature an air duct behind the bumper - this will require slight modification to attach it to the new bumper.
Lastly, to finish the job, we’ve listed here the MG badges - both for the ‘standard’ MG Motor TF (a red/cream badge, matching the rear badge on older TFs) and the MG Motor TF LE 500 (in black/silver).
