Cookies
What are cookies?
A "cookie" is a small piece of information sent by a web server to a web browser so it can be read back later from that browser. This is useful for having the browser remember some specific information.
What are they used for?
"Cookies" may be used to store information such as user ID's or to record user preferences for site personalisation. On-line ordering systems commonly use cookies to remember the items that a person may want to buy. The Rimmer Bros on-line ordering system uses cookies to record the parts on your order. If you have any problems using the on-line ordering system and receive messages such as 'There is no order to be placed', then this may be due to your browser not accepting "cookies". To enable cookies please refer to the help facility on your web browser software.
What about security?
"Cookies" can only be accessed by the site that created them and cannot be used to get data from your hard drive, retrieve your email address or access sensitive personal information. It is possible to configure your web browser to warn you before accepting a cookie. It will show the value and expiry date of the cookie. Refer to the help facility on your browser software for further information.
